The Knoxville Jazz Orchestra is a 501(c)3
non-profit corporation founded in 1999 by trumpeter, composer and arranger Vance Thompson.
The mission of the organization is to promote jazz through performance
and education.
The organization is governed by an independent board of directors comprised of
local leaders who are passionate about jazz. Directors are:

Founder and Director, Knoxville Jazz Orchestra
The primary education initiative of the KJO is the Knoxville
Jazz Youth Orchestra. Sponsored in conjunction with the University of
Tennessee School of Music, the youth orchestra is selected by
audition and rehearses weekly during the school year. The group is
directed by the KJO's lead trombonist, Tom Lundberg and coached by several members of the KJO and
presents a number of concerts throughout the region each year.
